Assalamualaikum wbt and peace be upon you,
.
It's normal for the Malays to ask this to us students. "What do you want to be when you grow up?" And they actually don't want to listen to our answer, coz they already have the answer in their minds. It's either a lawyer, doctor, engineer, millionaire, prime minister, pilot and all the glamorous and high paid jobs.
.
Look, I don't want to be either of those. I want to be someone who has the time to pray solatul jamaah 5 times daily at the mosque but at the same time also makes lots of money. I've friends who lead the best lives. They go to pray at the musolla every single time. Then they have the tazkirah, or read a bit of the quran or recite the hadiths. Then they go out to have a drink or eat. Then they go back to the musolla or head home. Then prepare to go to the musolla again for the next prayer. How do they earn their living? They use the internet to make a living as property agents. I don't see them complaining of tiredness at all. They don't have a deadline, they don't have to brave the traffic or come home late like my dad, they don't have a punch card, they don't have any debt, they buy things in cash, and they don't spend much. One of them earn RM10,000 per month but his monthly expenditure is only RM800. It's an excess of RM9,200, and he told my mom, he can afford to work once every three months. In the evening they will teach the children al-Quran, how to pray and whatnot. I think this is the best bunch of people. They wear clothes like Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. and they are very pious even though they are still young.
.
I think I want to work in property also when I grow up coz I like to do ID (Interior Design) (in fact I've told them I want to join them after SPM). However, I have to form my own company like my friends above. When my mom asked them how can they earn so much but at the same time be so laidback, they told my mom the secret is to maintain praying 5 times jamaah prayer at the musolla. They say, our era is almost the end of time, where Muslims don't care to emulate the Prophet, especially in upholding the 5 times jamaah prayer, So for those who do it, Allah will reward them rezeki (fortune) out of nowhere, in abundance, because of their closeness to Allah. I figure if I become a doctor, lawyer, engineer and whatnot, I'd be too busy with my work that I won't have time to pray jamaah prayers 5 times without fail.
.
My sister wants to become a botanist when she grows up. Everybody was surprised when she took up agricultural science in school coz it's considered a lesser grade science class unlike the pure science class. However my sister is firmed in her decision and my mom supported her. So, she is now in "C" class but she's fine with it. Some of her friends left her when she joined the "C" class. I guess people nowadays are very much drilled about status that it comes first compared to friendship. So, at first, my sister was left with no friends. She came home telling my mom how she had to go to recess alone, and she was so sad that she even forgot what she ate and where she ate. But now, things have changed. She found new and better friends, and she's become more popular than ever (just like me and lil sis hehe, sorry ye kalau saya perasan).
.
When we talked to our mom about this new development, my mom said, after big sis told her about her sad story, my mom would pray to God every time she see us to school at the door. She prays that we will be happy, have a good life in this world and the next, is loved by every creature, that Allah will guard our Iman, that we'll be successful, that we'll attract only the positive energy and be guarded against the negative ones, and so on and so forth. She said she learnt this from a pious old lady that she befriended. I guess my mom's du'a(s) came true after all. That's why when my BFF said to me, "Hey, how come everyone knows and greets you when I walk with you", I said to him, "Tell your mom to make du'a for you every time you go to school".
.
Well, I've shared with you two secrets already:
1) the secret to make lots of money without braking your backbone is by praying the 5 times compulsory prayers in jamaah.
2) the secret to be popular and loved by everyone is by asking your mom to make du'a for you every time you step out of the house. (Well, my mom makes du'a for my dad also, and for my lil baby bro too, etc. In fact she always always makes du'a for God knows who).
.
That's all. I hope you'll benefit from this post.

What Happen at Home Tonight
Assalamualaikum wbt and peace be upon you,
.
Tonight is Yasin recitation night at our musolla. My parents went as usual. I've skipped it becoz I'm just so tired nowadays. All Form 3 and 5 students have extra classes to prepare us for the PMR and SPM exams. I have to study until 2.30 everyday while my big sis has classes until 5.30. It's good that the teachers are pouring all their efforts to help us score our exams. I think teachers are the best people on earth becoz they are doing it for us, for our future, and not theirs. We are the ones who will excel and go on to better schools or universities. Last night I had difficulties doing my maths homework and had to ask my mom to do it for me. Today, when I got to school, I realised that the teacher hasn't given us the homework (so, I'm actually ahead of my class). I guess that's why it was so hard to do coz I haven't learnt it yet. My mom said, it's ok to get it wrong, because that's when you learn but I just hate getting the wrong answers every time.
.
Tonight, after coming back from the musolla, my dad looked up the hadith as usual, while my mom would read the Dr Aidh Al-Qarni's book out loud for everyone to hear. It's a chapter on Qiamulail. In the Quran, God says: And in part of the night, pray solatul tahajud as an additional worship(ibadah) for you (Al-Isra' 79). That's all I can remember. And I also remember my mom read, before the fajr, ask for repentance because that's the time to ask for repentance and God comes down to the lowest sky to grant repentence to those who ask Him during that time.
.
My mom has started teaching the al-Quran again coz a couple of her students begged her to continue teaching them. The rest have joined the class at the musolla, where all the students look very cute in their white jubah and serban. My mom is also trying to get students from other areas to join this class. She is doing the promotion by sending sms and word of mouth.
.
My dad will start teaching the Quranic alphabets in his office tomorrow. Apparently many of the adults there don't know how to read the al-Quran, so my dad will spend from 12.30 to 1pm teaching them using the Al-Hira' method. Tonight, my dad was busy revising the method for tomorrow's first class.
.
My big sis had the inter-school debate competition which was held in our school today. My big sis was the third minister who is debating for the government. However, my school lost even in the first round because most of them were not as prepared as the other schools. Tomorrow she has a speech presentation or something while my lil sis is selected as "protocol" something during the Teachers Parents Meeting on Saturday. She will give a briefing to all the VIPs, Teachers and Committee Members on the protocol and the programme schedule before the meeting is held. My lil sis, as usual, would find the most awkward place to practice. This time in my mom's car so that no one can watch or hear her haha.
.
Well, I guess that's all for tonight. I've so many things to tell y'all but I'm sure no one would bother to read it. So, have a good sleep and a beautiful dream coz tomorrow is a new day, a new life, a new me and a new you.

Helping Humans of All Races and Religions
Assalamualaikum wbt and peace be upon you,
.
A reader who read my previous post on "Going International From Home" asked me whether our family only help Muslims.
.
The answer is, we help everyone in need, regardless of race or religion.
.
1. For example, once a month, a charity lorry from a Buddhist organization in Johor would make a round in our area. They would ask for any donations like furniture, electrical items, pens or pencils, etc and money. They would always stop at our house coz my mom would save something for them.
.
2. We always donate our stuff in a charity box/bin which belongs to a Non-Muslim organization.
.
3. Sometimes my mom would purposely put plastic stuffs and old newspapers which we have collected in the garbage bin. So, when the garbage collectors come, they will take the stuffs and sell it. It's a kind of sadaqah (donation/charity) also.
.
4. When a student in my school has a misfortune, we would all give donations and pray that he/she becomes well again even though he or she is not a Muslim.
.
5. We help the old ladies whether they are Malay, Indian or Chinese. My mom would stop and give a lift to the old ladies who struggle walking up the hill, or walking down the hill in the hot sun.
.
Well, I guess the list is not extensive but basically we do help everyone, not just the Muslims but let's face it, the Muslims, especially in Palestine are the most oppressed, that's why we have to help them more. And other Muslims like in Cambodia and Indonesia are very poor, that it goes without saying that we need to help them, because they are our brothers and sisters.

Going International From Home
Assalamualaikum wbt and peace be upon you,
.
Hi, how's life? I'm good as always. Maybe some of you noticed that I've not blogged for quite some time and I've deleted a few of my posts. Now that I have the time, I'd like to write on something which many of you might think is difficult but is actually quite easy to do.
.
Do you understand the title of this post? It means, you can still be international or do something international (cross borders) even from the comfort of your own home, and change the lives of your fellow human beings as well, maybe in terms of food, clothing, education, religion etc. Below are what you can practice from home:
.
1. Send money to build mosque in Gaza.(some local mosques like the al-Falah mosques in Subang Jaya have a twinning programme where they help to build or rebuild mosques in Gaza. You don't need thousands of dollars, RM 50 (about USD15) is also acceptable)
.
2. Send money to the Palestinians (Through various NGOs in Malaysia ).
.
3. Fund an orphan in Palestine (through Aqsa Shariff). You can organize this with others in your area (eg everyone including me chips in RM5 (less than USD2 per month, and the collection is sent to the organization every month).
.
4 Send muqaddam/ Iqra' to Sri Lanka and Cambodia (some countries do not have a system to teach basic understanding of the Quranic alphabets so it is good to send them these little books which are very affordable here. You can send the books through international students who study at the International Islamic University, or if you know someone there, it's better, that's what we did).
.
5. Send Al-Quan to the whole world (It's a simple system, when there's a tour group going to Seoul for example, a couple of the Al-Quran will be sent to the Seoul Mosque. So far, the Quran has been distributed to Beijing, Seoul, Cambodia, Vietnam, Spain (
6. Send clothes to Cambodia and Indonesia. Once a year, my mom's friend will send a batch of clothes to Cambodia because the people there are very poor. For Indonesia, give the clothes to Indonesian maids who can send it to her kampung via courier service. The clothes can come from all your neighbours.
.
7. Make Qurban in Cambodia. .
.
8. Send money to build religious schools in Indonesia. You don't need tons of money. Just a few hundreds is enough.
.
9. Helps people who want to perform badal Haji in Mekah during the Hajj season.
.
10. Send money to religious schools in Thailand. It's so easy coz there are so many people from Thailand coming here asking for donations for their schools. So, make an acquaintance with them, and verify the info that they give, then you can start send them money or Al-Quran.
.
11. I think you can also send donations to India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan coz there are so many of them here. You can get to know them, listen about the difficulties there, and use these contacts to help those people in need over there. You can also send the donations through our local tabligh groups here.(I've friends who are tablighs and they always go to those places, sometimes for three months).
.
12. My dad's friend and his wife make the extra effort of going to Inner Mongolia and staying there for a month to teach the children and the ladies to read the al-Quran and the al-Fatihah. I think they stayed in a tent like the locals. Isn't it cool.
It's so easy to do something for others even though those people are so far away because there are so many organizations and people out there who can help you do it. All you need to put in is a little effort. You don't need to wait to have tons of money before you can start doing something good for someone. Don't just watch the news and say "I feel so sorry for these people" but that's it. no action taken. JUST DO IT!!
