Lagi Citer Tok Ayah and Tok: Part Deux Plus

The whole family in the 70s. From the left, my mom, Tok, Pak Long and Tok Ayah.Mak aku muka poyo je, macam nak belasah photographer pun ada gak. Penumbuk pun dah ready dah. Dah lah pakai seluar dalam je gi tangkap gambar. Kurang malu betul la! Rambut mak aku pon macam kena tsunami je. Mak aku memang gangster, dari dulu, kini dan selamanya. He, he, sori mama. I'm proud of my mom sebab mama gangster.

My Tok Ayah looking very fine in his younger days.

Tok aku ngan Pak Long. Orang dolu-dolu kalau gi tangkap gambar mesti dressing habis. Tengok Pak Long aku, siap bow-tie, vest ngan stokin lagi. Aku sekarang tangkap gambar pakai T-shirt, slipar jepun, ngan seluar jean buruk je. Nampak sangat tak de class. Apa nak buat, kang aku pakai bow-tie orang panggil aku sewel lak.

Tok Ayah masa kat Tawau dengan anak jiran dia.Budak pompuan tu siap pegang bunga, ala, macam flower girl masa wedding Kate Middleton tu.

Tengok style orang dolu-dolu. Smart memanjang, cam Hardy Boys pun ada gak. Pakai cardi dengan black tie.Sejibik cam George Peppard dalam citer Breakfast At Tiffany's (yang nenek aku jadi heroin tuh). Stylo tuh.

George Peppard and my Grandma Audrey (Audrey Hepburn) in Breakfast At Tiffany's # 1961.

Peace.

P/s: Saya mintak maaf kat Justin Bieber's and K-pop's fans...

UP WHERE WE BELONG : JOE COCKER AND JENNIFER WARNES

I'd like to dedicate this song to my beautiful baby brother, Muhammad Faris Imran who is now up there where we belong. Insyaallah we will join you, Mamat. I miss you so much.

 "Up Where We Belong"

Who knows what tomorrow brings
In a world, few hearts survive
All I know is the way I feel
When it's real, I keep it alive

The road is long, there are mountains in our way
But we climb a step every day

Love lift us up where we belong
Where the eagles cry on a mountain high
Love lift us up where we belong
Far from the world we know, up where the clear winds blow

Some hang on to "used to be"
Live their lives, looking behind
All we have is here and now
All our life, out there to find

The road is long, there are mountains in our way,
But we climb them a step every day

Love lift us up where we belong
Where the eagles cry on a mountain high
Love lift us up where we belong
Far from the world we know, up where the clear winds blow

Time goes by
No time to cry
Life's you and I
Alive, today

Love lift us up where we belong
Where the eagles cry on a mountain high
Love lift us up where we belong
Far from the world we know, up where the clear winds blow

Much love.

Tok Ayah and Tok: Celebrating 46 years of marital bliss Part Deux

Assalamulaikum wbt and thank you for visiting my blog.

Tonight I'm going to write Part deux of the fairytale love story of my grandparents. My Grandpa Ismael was my grandma's neighbour in Alor Setar, Kedah, back in 50s. He fell in love with my grandma at first sight. Wow. Yeah Wow. My grandpa was a soldier. He's retired now of course. It's a family secret (not a secret anymore I guess) that he ran away from home to join the army at the underage of 15 (he lied about his age in his application, with the help of an insider of course). That was the era when young men from all walks of life were urged to fight for the country.

My grandpa is on the left, with his comrade trying to look brutally handsome.

Being underage, I guess my grandpa never recovered from the harsh military training. He has stayed slim ever since.
My grandpa somewhere either in Kuching, Kota Kinabalu or Jakarta (not sure la, sorry ye). He's in the middle. His initial ambition was to become a film star. Yeah, who didn't coz it was the golden era of the Malay Film Industry. He loves to tell us how he wrote to P. Ramlee, and the legendary actor replied, asking him to take the train to Singapore (those were the period of Studio Jalan Ampas, you know). However, God is the ultimate Planner. His fate turned to a different direction.

p/s: Aku baru balik kampung semalam. Tok ayah and tok punyalah excited tengok gambar depa ada kat dalam internet!!Mak Uda siap call Tok Ayah. Tapi ada salah info skit. Sebenarnya, gambar ni di ambil di Tawau, Sabah. Yang kat sebelah kiri tu kawan baik Tok Ayah, Encik Mat, yang sekarang ni anak dia pengusaha kedai nasi ayam, ala, yang namanya Tat Nasi Ayam tuh. Aku tak pernah rasa lagi, tapi sume orang kata sodap giler. Nantilah, bila baba aku bawak gi Shah Alam, boleh le aku review makanan kat sana ok.

 P. Ramlee, the Malay genius. He was an actor, singer, scriptwriter, director, songwriter, composer, comedian, social critic, painter and Malaysia's film and art ambassador in the international arena. U know, he even won best actor during an Asia Pacific Film Festival. And he was super excellent in all those areas. Insyaallah, I'll do a write-up as a tribute to this legendary human. He's one in a million. Maybe like Hang Tuah during the Melaka Sultanate. There will be only one P. Ramlee just like there's only one Hang Tuah.

Hokay, enough about P. Ramlee. Back to my grandpa.....well, maybe in Part trois. Coming soon...

night night

On Thanksgiving, Yaasin Recitation and Well Wish "Kenduri"

Assalamulaikum wbt. <3

I'd like to share some good news with you guys. My big sister, Anis and Dida have emerged top in their classes during the recent exams. Wow, my parents are soooo proud that my mum said, she'll throw a Kesyukuran and Doa Selamat Kenduri (I dont know the exact translation, maybe "A Thanksgiving and Well Wish Party?") soon. Whenever we have this Kenduri, we will invite neighbours to come to our house.
Usually about 70 - 80 people will come. There will be Yaasin recitation and doa. There will be more men than the womenfolk, and many children.

The Kenduri is usually held at around 9.30pm (basically after the Isya' prayers). My mom would order food, and the neighbours would also potluck. The children will have a good time, coz they get to play outdoors at night.

There will be sweets for the kids, and nuts for the adults to munch later on, after the formalities are over. There will be small talks and an informal community meeting will be held. My friends like Atiqah and Shahira who live nearby would come as well.

The above pix were taken during the recent Kenduri held prior to my parents' departure for the Holy cities of Mekah and Madinah. Me and fellow SMKPian, Shareen (the mouth in the foreground) who came early to help mom with the preparation. My little sister, Dida being the photographer, she only took what interested her. Obviously there's no photo of the actual event. However, from this photo, you can see that the event is held at night. I'm wearing a Baju Melayu or Malay Attire, which is usually colourful and comfortable. Dida is wearing a Baju Kurung (Caged Attire?), another Malay Costume which covers the wearer from neck to toe while little Amin, (Shareen's baby bro) is wearing a Baju Melayu. See, I told u, kids love the rare freedom of playing outside at night.

That's all for now. I don't have many pretty pictures to share. Maybe next time. Until then, have a beautiful, wonderful, blissful life.

Tok Ayah and Tok: Celebrating 46 years of marital bliss Part Une

Assalamualaikum wbt and happy day guys,

Hari ni aku nak citer pasal Tok and Tok Ayah aku. Yes, I'm going to talk about my grandma and grandpa (this one is not grandma Audrey, this is grandma Penang).

Cube tengok gambar klasik hitam putih they all masa mentah dulu. Ala, sweet innocent nye

When she was still single.

My grandma when she was an innocent young lady. I don't know why people those days like to pose in a certain style and in the bushes. lawak la. Still, she's sooooo sweet. She was wearing a short sleeved cotton blouse and a batik sarong coz she lived in the kampong (village). Don't u think she looks like Saadiah, the famous Malay Primadona?

P.s: 2/7/2012 Aku baru balik dr. Penang, so dapat additional info and kena rectify info kat atas. Sebenarnya, Tok aku bukan tangkap gambar kat kampung. This photo was taken at the backyard of a double-story bungalow in Jalan Pegawai, Alor Setar. The bungalow belongs to former Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohammad. The place was rented out to students of Tarbiah Islamiah, Alor Setar where my tok went to study. This picture was taken when my tok went to visit her friends who stayed there. My tok is an orphan, so she did not have the means to rent a place. She had to stay with her Wa @ Pak Long @ Eldest Uncle, Syeikh Yusof, who was an Imam. To find out more about Syeikh Yusof, click here at Syeikh Yusof .

Photos of the late Seniwati Saadiah, taken from Google Images. See, SHE looked like my grandma (not the other way around ok!).  Anyway, Al-Fatihah to Saadiah, a very talented and beautiful actress of her time indeed.

My Grandma is on the left, with her friend from the same village where they hailed in Kedah. They look serene and mature beyond their age...

After she got married .....

After she's married. That's her eldest son, my Pak Long as a toddler. She's moved into the city. See how her fashion sense changed. Now, more sexy la!

With her third child, Zeti Akhtar (her name is inspired from Malaysia's Central Bank Governor, Zeti Akhtar Aziz). Our kind Mak Iti now stays with my grandparents in Penang. My grandma was stylish and still maintained her figure....

TO BE CONTINUED...
